Katrin Wirsching

Katrin Wirsching was appointed the Head of Strategy and Organisational Development in the Executive Office of the Director General at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in July 2022. In this role, she supports the development and implementation of the ICRC's Institutional Strategy. This includes overseeing institutional performance management functions in the evaluation office.

Prior to this position, from 2020 to 2022, she served as the Deputy Director General and oversaw the ICRC's efforts to strengthen collaboration within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, develop the ICRC's approach to partnering for sustainable humanitarian impact with development actors, and support the ICRC's climate and environment transition.

From 2018 to 2020, she headed the ICRC's division for Cooperation and Coordination within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. She was essential in setting up the joint IFRC/ICRC National Society Investment Alliance (NSIA). This pooled fund provides flexible, multi-year funding to support the development of Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies. From 2020 to 2023, Katrin was one of two ICRC-appointed members of the Standing Commission, and she is currently a member of the board of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Center.

With 20 years of experience in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including five years at the German Red Cross, where she headed the office based in Israel/the occupied Palestinian territories, Katrin joined the ICRC in 2010. She held a number of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Cooperation positions in Gaza, Kuala Lumpur, and Yangon, working and engaging with many National Societies as well as the International Federation. Born in Germany, Katrin studied Political Science at the Freie Universität Berlin and is proficient in German, English, and French.

I am a member of the GA & Board since 2024.
